Growing Sweet Corn in Containers

Soil Preparation

Healthy soil is essential for good plant growth and yield.
Use a well-draining soil mix prepared with:

• Red soil – 40%

• Vermicompost – 40%

• Coco peat – 20%

Add a small quantity of neem cake to each container to help prevent soil-borne pests.

Container Size

Choose containers or grow bags with a minimum height of 12 inches.
Recommended sizes include:

• 12 × 12 inches

• 15 × 15 inches

• 12 × 15 inches
  Larger containers will support better root development.

Sowing Method

• Plant seeds 12–14 cm apart

• Sow at a depth of about ½ inch (1.3 cm)

• Place 1–2 seeds per spot

• Water gently after sowing and keep the soil consistently moist

Plant Care

• Ensure plants receive at least 3–4 hours of direct sunlight daily

• Water regularly without overwatering

• Monitor plants for pests and apply neem oil or natural organic sprays such as Panchagavya when needed
